03/19/2013 - WSFD Responds to a Structure Fire
On the night of March 19th at 9:16pm, the WSFD was alerted of a reported structure fire at 29 Cloverdale Drive in Oakdale. As units were responding, the dispatcher advised them that there were also reports of heavy smoke in the area. Engine 3-10-8 was the first unit to arrive on scene and Captain Billy Savino reported a working fire and mutual aid was started. Chief Doucet and Ass.t Chiefs Domingo, Gray & Gary Savino arrived and directed the firefighting efforts. The fire had started in the laundry room, and had already extended through the roof upon arrival. The firefighting efforts were hampered due to the heavy amounts of storage throughout the dwelling. Bohemia & Sayville FD's responded and were put to work, and due to the large amount of overhaul required, Bayport and east Islip FD's were also requested to the scene. 2 firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries by the Community Ambulance Company. The SCPD Arson Squad and the Islip Town Fire Marshal were called in to determine the origin & cause of the blaze. |
