Motor Vehicle Accident - Montauk Hwy

      In the early morning hours of Saturday January 31st, the West Sayville Fire Department was notified for a motor vehicle accident with possible heavy rescue in the woods next to a creek on Montauk Highway. Engine 8 was the first arriving unit and discovered a vehicle that had careened through a concrete retaining wall, and that was now in danger of plunging into the creek. Ex-Captain Joe Gioeli III and firefighter Bill Savino Jr. began their initial assessments of the patient and vehicle stability while the remaining crew members gathered equipment and combed the area for possible additional victims. Upon arrival of Rescue 3, the car was stabilized and Ex-Chief Michael Postel entered the backseat of the vehicle to maintain head stabilization, while firefighter David Banks and firefighter Charlie Heerbrandt worked on stabilizing the victim's fractured leg. The scene ran under the command of Chief Kelly Barnes while operations were overseen by Chief Joseph Schroeder and Chief Luke Domingo.

Nicoll's Point Marina Structure Fire

      On April 26th, 2008 the West Sayville Fire Department was alerted for a working commercial structure fire at Nicoll's Point Marina at around 11:30PM. Chief Michael Postel (3-10-30) was in command of the incident and was greeted by a large volume of fire in the commercial structure upon arrival. Mutual Aid was requested from the Bohemia FD and Sayville FD for an engine to the scene, East Islip FD and Islip Terrace FD for Rapid Intervation Teams, and Bayport FD for an engine to standby at West Sayville Fire Department Headquarters.
